Get rid of any green hair from swimming!

Get rid of any green hair from swimming!

We had a few days of 90 degree weather and I loved it!  I was sucking every minute of that heat up knowing I wouldn’t see it again until next summer.  I love summer and hate to see it leave!!  It went from 95 to 68 in two days … crazy!!!

I didn’t get green hair this year, yeh!!! HUGE DEAL for me.  For a couple of years until  I found the right brand of chemicals I would have that DARK HORRIBLY GONE WRONG GREEN on my ends.

I couldn’t find a commercial product to do the trick.  I had found this recipe years ago.  I wished I could tell you the site that I got the recipe from to give credit but I couldn’t find it again.

One thing …. everything I read said that fresh lemons worked much better than the concentrated. (Which may explain why the lemon juice concentrate hadn’t worked before for me.)

There has never been green left when doing this concoction!    So just wanted to share if any reader ever had this problem …. I keep this recipe written down in my address book so I never lose it.   It took forever to find something that works!

Remove green from hair due to swimming

1/4 cup of FRESH lemon juice (one big lemon)

2 Tablespoons of Baking soda

1 teaspoon mild shampoo

Mix together in a small bowl. The mixture will get fizzy from the combo of BS and lemon juice.

Wet hair.

Mine was really concentrated on ends when green so I just kept adding more to them and then all over. Put on a shower cap for 20 minutes. Rinse it out then shampoo again. (I did a deep conditioning treatment afterwards.)  All ugly green hair gone and ready for Fall!!

Best tip is ALWAYS wet your hair before swimming so it doesn’t absorb any chemicals to turn it green. 🙂

Still waiting on that precious grandbaby to arrive 🙂

Honey and Avocado face mask

Honey and Avocado face mask

I have every beauty product under the sun but out of Lush face masks.  So my face was needing an uplift from the summer sun and a lil acne around nose. I found this great pin that has 22 different face masks.  I went with the honey and avocado one first.  I put the extra in an air tight container in fridge and it lasted a week and a half.  I was able to do 3 masks.  My face feels wonderful from it!!

Best pimple clear up product ever!

Best pimple clear up product ever!

clean and clear

I normally don’t have problem with acne or pimples.  However last July I got one on my nose that would not go away.  We were in Boston and went to the Lush store and that is when my love for their products began.  I did a mask, a toner tab, and used tea tree spray and it was gone the next day.  I was amazed!

However I had the same spot come back up again recently.  I didn’t have toner tablets or a mask to do from Lush.  I used everything else under the sun trying to get this pimple to go away.  It was like a cyst on my nose.  While in KY my parents were even worried it was so bad and could be skin cancer.  I had promised them if it wasn’t gone in a week I’d call the doctor.

My mom had some of this Clean and Clear product to bring home with me.  I had read that you can actually overdry a pimple and it make it worse.  I believe I was using too many products trying to get it to clear up.  I didn’t use anything except for face wash and moisturizer for two days.  I then put this on that second night.  The next day it was gone!!!  The entire cystic pimple was finally healing!

I will always keep a tube of this for any future outbreaks!!

Gardener’s Hand Scrub

Gardener’s Hand Scrub

pink hand scrub

I made my mom a jar of the Gardener’s Hand Scrub.  I love this stuff and have already used up one jar myself.  I refuse to spend money on Mary Kay’s product after seeing how good it works.  With it being Mother’s Day thought I’d put this recipe up again.  This would be a great gift for the kids to make.  You choose the color by the Dawn you pick out.  I have now did pink and blue.

Homemade Sugar Scrub

Homemade Sugar Scrub

sugar scrub

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  It was mild weather but at least the sun was shining. We went out to the outlet mall for the Nike store.  Hubby bought me running shoes along with other running gear for my upcoming birthday.  Is it just me but is there anything more fun than shoe shopping?  No matter how much your clothing size fluctuates, your shoe size stays the same. 🙂

This was another simple pin but very successful!  It makes sense that I tried a body sugar scrub since I use the Gardener’s Hand soap and the  Super Silky Legs shaving scrub.  They both have a sugar base and do an excellent job of exfoliating.  So no surprise then that I love the homemade body sugar scrub!  The smell is amazing!

I made the recipe in a 6 oz. mason jar.  I then put it in a Lush plastic container for the shower.  I am way to clumsy to have glass in my shower.

This would be a great gift to make with your kids for grandma’s Mother’s Day gift at a cheap price.   Tie a ribbon around the jar and add a bow to the top.  Put in a cute gift bag.  The kids could each make her a card.  The kids would love they made it themselves too for her.

Homemade Sugar Scrub

For a 6 oz. jar

1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
Fill top with olive oil (covering sugars and an extra half inch more)
1-2 Tablespoons of vanilla to add a delicious smell (I used 2 T)

Mix all together really well.

Use a spoonful at a time to scrub body.

Enjoy a smooth body afterwards! 🙂

Thanks to the blogger for her great tip!

Have a wonderful Monday!  Be sure to purchase your Mother’s Day cards and gifts for Sunday.  If you have a loved one that  struggles with infertility or their child or mother have died this is a good week to call and check in with them.  This week can be very hard seeing all the Mother’s Day commercials.  It then helps with remembering our own blessings too.

Be sure to get your mammogram!

Be sure to get your mammogram!

I have a close friend, Patsy, who is in the process of kicking breast cancer’s butt.  When she was diagnosed, I promised I would get a mammogram.  I will be forty-three in a couple of weeks so I should be getting them.  I had mine one and only in 2008.  As most women, I haven’t made it a priority which now I will.
I got my mammogram today!  I talked about Patsy during my exam.  The tech commented that was the greatest thing we could do for our loved ones fighting breast cancer …. get our own mammograms, if applicable. She said by taking inspiration from them it can lead to earlier detections and could be saving our own lives.  Plus our loved ones can be comforted knowing because of them we are taking better care of ourselves.  So for you Patsy I promise to get my mammogram EVERY year! I did it my birthday month, so it will be easy to remember when to make my appt in the upcoming years.
I know Patsy will kick those cancer cells to the curb.  Her attitude is amazing and inspirational!  She is such a phenomenal mom, wife, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and person and so privileged to call her my long time friend!  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers!  (I was going to post a pix of her but forgot to ask her permission.  She is just gorgeous with a shaved head!)
So do you need a mammogram? If so, schedule yours now!  It may be your life you are saving!

American Cancer Society Guidelines for the Early Detection of Breast cancer

  • Yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health
  • Clinical breast exam (CBE) about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over
  • Women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any breast change promptly to their health care provider. Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s.

Some women – because of their family history, a genetic tendency, or certain other factors – should be screened with MRI in addition to mammograms. (The number of women who fall into this category is small: less than 2% of all the women in the US.) Talk with your doctor about your history and whether you should have additional tests at an earlier age.   This info is from :
