Grocery store

Grocery store

Just realized until yesterday I hadn’t been to the grocery store since 11/19!!!! My hubby had went for milk a couple times. We also went to Sams last week but really only bought bread flour and milk there. That is how good I have been stocked up. I try to stock up so during Christmas I don’t have to spend as much. FYI … This is the best time to stock up on baking supplies!

Pet Peeve

Pet Peeve

don’t you hate when you buy newspapers for coupons and you get cheated by none in the bag?! They were in the bags so thought for sure I would be safe.
I do believe I am going to sign up for Sundays only for more papers. Chicago Tribune has special for 26 weeks at $26. They are $1.99 in the store so half the price.

My best deals on Black Friday

My best deals on Black Friday
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I didn’t get to go home to KY but was happy to spend it with my hubby’s family. I was one of those nuts that shopped on Thursday night. Did you score any great deals??

I can’t put all my deals but since the daughter picked her gift out I can show it. I can also show the items I picked up from my mom to us. The daughter’s gift is actually my biggest savings rush too!! She had asked for the smaller Keurig maker that was $119. However I saw a deal for the next one up. I actually purchased it Thursday evening before going to the store. I was so on cloud nine of my savings that I had to call one of my best friends and the daughter. Then before leaving for Kohls midnight sale I got an email. You guessed it …. there was a problem with my order. It had kicked out her Keurig from the order. I was just so glad I saw it before going to the store.

I have to point out that I live three minutes from Kohls or else I wouldn’t have went to the midnight sale. I had done most of my shopping online but some things I wanted to see. Then after the mishap with the Keurig, I was really glad I had planned on going. I arrived to a line of at least 200 people. Luckily they opened the door five minutes later and we got in quickly. The carts were all gone so it was only what you could carry. I made a mad dash to the coffee pots and kitchen appliances. I got the Keurig, a wafflemaker, a small coffeepot, and a memory foam pillow. I am sure I was hilarious trying to get these boxes to the checkout. The Keurig box was big so I ended up pushing my items for a while. The manager saw me and did help me with the last bit of my journey to the register. I thankfully got right through the checkout and took those to the car. (much easier to carry when the items were in bags!!)

Here is where I was silly … I went back in the store!! To get my other items I waited in line for an HOUR to check out. My hands were full so I couldn’t even take out my Iphone to play with it. Glad I had a lady that was chatty in line with me too so it wasn’t too bad. My savings were worth it but I was wiped out getting home at 2:10. On that purchase I spent $55 and got back $15 Kohls cash. I saved $138.33 on those items too!

So here is how good I did on the Keurig …. it was regularly $189.99 and had an unadvertised price of $134.99 in the store! ($149.99 was advertised price) I then had a 15% off coupon bringing it to $117.78. But wait there is more, I earned $30 Kohls cash too! So in essence bringing it down to $87!! You talk about a rush!! I did ask the the manager about my order. He said they may have sent most of their stock out to the stores or that they’d just sold a lot too.

The memory foam pillow I was ecstatic to get too. It was $49.99 and on sale at $17.99 and with the 15% off it was only $15.29. Too bad mom said I have to put it up until Christmas. 🙂

I got a earring tree that was $40 and with my coupon for $10 off … it was only $2! (I always pick the item that my free stuff goes towards so it means even more to me.)

A beautiful photo frame to go in my living room … was reg $29.99. It was on sale for $11.99 and with the 15% off I only paid $10.19.

A Black and Decker coffee pot reg $39.99 was on an unadvertised special of $16.19. With the 15% off I only paid $13.76. (I found it amusing thinking about it that the daughter got a $190 coffee pot and I got a $40 one. How does that happen …. oh because we don’t drink coffee much, lol. I only keep one for company but I had cracked ours. So this was perfect price to get a new one.)

I have always wanted a waffle maker. However we have limited space and just don’t know how much I’d use one. Well that’s how I felt about a breadmaker and in a month I have made bread five times. So when I saw the deal on the Bella Waffle Maker I had to pounce. It was reg $39.99 and on sale for $19.99. With my 15% off it was 16.99 and it has a $10 mail in rebate. So it was only $6.99!

The best part is I also have $120 in Kohls cash to spend on the 26th! :))

Don’t forget if you make multiple purchases at Kohls during Kohls cash back time you can take your receipts in and they will combine them. So if you go over the $50 mark with them combined you will get that $15 in Kohls cash. That offer is good until the 25th.

Saving on meat

Saving on meat

#41 Saving money on meat

Meat is my biggest expense especially if I’m not stocked up. I was paying a fortune for ground chuck at $4 a lb at the local grocery store. I recently had gotten a Sam’s club membership for the year and decided to see if I could do better there. So I headed to Sams and stocked up on chicken, beef stew meat, and ground chuck. For $56 I got eleven meals of meat! Ground chuck there cost me $2.98 a lb!
I came home and packaged it up. I used Ziplock baggies and labeled them. I also double bagged them into a bigger bag before going into the freezer. Next time I stock up I plan on doing a pin of making all your meals in a day for a month. It would only be a few extra steps of what I do now with the baggies. I use a scale to make sure I am getting close to a pound in each package. Since I am doing a small amount my kitchen scale is perfect. It weighs up to a pound. If you want to do bigger amounts then you will need a bigger type of scale.
This savings made me love Sams even more. I will point out that to save money at Sams you have to make sure you don’t buy more perishables than you can consume and go in with a list!! The list is KEY to not spending hundreds of dollars on IMPULSE items!! I was so proud of myself that I only purchased the meat. my Clif fruit snacks, and the big pack of paper plates on my list. 🙂
