Honey and Avocado face mask

Honey and Avocado face mask

I have every beauty product under the sun but out of Lush face masks.  So my face was needing an uplift from the summer sun and a lil acne around nose. I found this great pin that has 22 different face masks.  I went with the honey and avocado one first.  I put the extra in an air tight container in fridge and it lasted a week and a half.  I was able to do 3 masks.  My face feels wonderful from it!!

Homemade Fabreeze

Homemade Fabreeze

fabreeze

It was a beautiful breezy day so I wanted to freshen up my comforter.  I threw it over the deck railing but found I had no Fabreeze.  Off to Pinterest and in two minutes had a great recipe for homemade Fabreeze.  So easy and economical!  Works great!!  I didn’t have a large spray bottle.  I made the recipe in a large bowl and stored remaining in a mason jar.  I used 3 cups of hot water because the bottle is 27 ounces.

Homemade Fabreeze

1/8 cup of your favorite fabric softener

2 Tablespoons of Baking Soda

Spray Bottle

Hot water

Using a funnel or steady hand pour fabric softener in bottle.  Add baking soda.  Fill bottle with hot water.    Shake well!!

I also soaked a couple of dishrags in the solution and hung them to dry around the house.  It added a fresh scent to the rooms.

Thanks to the blogger for her great tip!  http://www.cheryl-hill.com/2/post/2013/01/diy-make-your-own-fabreeze.html#.UaUhVbG9KK0

Have a wonderful day!!! 🙂

2nd batch of Laundry Detergent!

2nd batch of Laundry Detergent!

Happy 1st day of SUMMER!

I love summer! It is my favorite my season. The hotter the better too!  We will be in pool all weekend celebrating this wonderful time!  🙂

I can not believe that my $33.47 laundry detergent lasted over eight and half months plus all that I gave away!  Amazing!  I have been very happy with its cleaning power.  I had half of a bottle of Tide and never thought to use it.

Being down to just a small amount it was time to replenish. I thought about making the liquid version but decided to make another batch of powder.  I didn’t use 2-55 oz. Purex fabric softeners like last time.  I have been using the Downy soaked towel so don’t need that extra softener.  The original recipe was for 1-2 55 oz. bottles.  This saved me $10 too.  So this batch cost me $23.47!

detergentIngredients:
Box of Borax
Box of Arm & Hammer Washing soda
4 lbs. Baking soda (I keep a large bag on hand)
2 bars of Zote
1-2 55 oz. Purex Fabric Softener Crystals (only had 26 oz so used 2 of those)
3 lbs. oxyclean or generic

The time consuming part is grating Zote bars.  Grate like you would parmesan cheese. That does take a while so if you have a food processor, use it!  Savings is so worth the forty minutes to an hour it takes to grate though!
mix g bag
Mix it all together in a large garbage bag.  Use your hands or large spoon to mix it too.  Once all mixed together put into containers.
Use a funnel to put in Purex bottles.  (We now have a funnel just for this purpose.)  Use a knive to push out any clumps.  I had saved an epsom salts bulk container to use this time with my four Purex bottles.

Use 2 Tablespoons or as I do and fill Purex lid 1/4 to 1/2 full per load

laundry detergent

I ♥love♥ making my own laundry detergent! Its not something that I have do but truly believe it cleans just as well as my Tide.  So why wouldn’t I continue using it and save us so much money?  I also love I am keeping containers out of landfills.  Every bottle I don’t buy and every bottle I reuse to store detergent is helping the environment.

It is definitely my most money saved pin that I have done on this journey!  Laundry detergent for over a year at $57, can’t be beat! So glad I tried it back in October.

Have a wonderful weekend!  See you back here on Monday.  Now that its summer I am only going to post Monday through Friday.  Time to enjoy the heat of summer with hubby, family, and friends on weekends.  🙂

Gardener’s Hand Scrub

Gardener’s Hand Scrub

pink hand scrub

I made my mom a jar of the Gardener’s Hand Scrub.  I love this stuff and have already used up one jar myself.  I refuse to spend money on Mary Kay’s product after seeing how good it works.  With it being Mother’s Day thought I’d put this recipe up again.  This would be a great gift for the kids to make.  You choose the color by the Dawn you pick out.  I have now did pink and blue.

blue s

You only need 3 items:

a jar

Dawn Hand Renewal

sugar

Takes less than three minutes to make:

Fill jar 3/4’s full with sugar.

Finish filling jar with Dawn.

Slowly mix together.

If too runny, add more sugar.

Use a teaspoon of scrub to clean your hands.

They will feel so soft!!!

I hope everyone is having a great week!  I am in KY spending time with my momma.  I have my niece’s bridal shower to attend.  I do have posts scheduled, they just may not be posted on Facebook or Twitter.

Have a great day!

Homemade Air Fresheners

Homemade Air Fresheners

af

I have a cat so I am always worrying about the smell in our home.  I was really excited to try these homemade gel air fresheners.  They took maybe five minutes to make and then overnight they gelled up.  I am really excited to see if the scents last.  I used orange essentials oils and they smell great!!  So far successful pin!  (Will update on their lasting power.)

This is another gift you could help your kids make for grandma’s on Mothers Day.  You will have to pour the boiling mix into the jars though.  They can help you measure out the water, salt, food coloring, and essential oils.  The kids could decorate the jars with stickers too.

I only had small 6 oz mason jars so the third jar was only filled half way up.

Homemade Air Fresheners

Very simple ingredients:

2 cups of COLD water

Food coloring

1 Tablespoon of salt

A box of Gelatin -will need all 4 packs  ( usually located near the pudding, jello, dream whip, and tapioca section)

Essential oils (I used orange)

HEATPROOF jars/glasses

 So easy to make:

Put just 2-3 drops of food coloring in each jar.

Add 30 drops of essential oils into food coloring (the more drops the stronger).

Bring 1 cup of the water to a boil.  When boiling, whisk in the gelatin packets until dissolved.

Then add other cup of cold water and the 1 T of  salt.

Mix together.

Quickly pour into jars.

Take a stick or plastic spoon and stir mixture.

Set out overnight to gel up.

Enjoy wonderful fragrance for up to a month.

Her blog has very detailed pictures so check her out!  Thanks to her for her tip!   http://www.delightfulcountrycookin.com/2010/08/homemade-air-freshener.html
